We’re excited to be a part of what’s soon becoming the Perth season of astronomy festivals!
Astrofest, which has been going since the International Year of Astronomy (2009) comes back again on Saturday March 28th at Curtin University stadium. It’s a fantastic event for young and old, families and date nights because of the wide spread of offerings and the awesome atmosphere.
There’s a great big line up of telescopes where you can chat to astronomers and view planets, nebulae, star clusters and the moon. There’s lego displays and make your own SKA dish, rockets, the Scitech crew with their high energy shows and spacedomes. There’s also astrophotography, talks and a competition on the night to win a telescope. What’s best? It’s free! You can even bring along a picnic, although there are food stalls too.
New this year is the Shire of Kalamunda getting into the astronomy night action. They’re hosting a Guiness World Record attempt for the Largest Astronomy Lesson on Saturday February 28th (one month before Astrofest).
It’s set to be another wonderful family-friendly event under the stars with food stalls, picnics, performances and talks from astronomers before the main event: the astronomy lesson.
